God of War 3 PC Port: Windows & Linux Setup

Use your own game dump with this unofficial community native PC port of the PS4 Remastered game; Sony has not released an official God of War III PC edition.

The port uses its own launcher. Older RPCS3 instructions cover a different route.

Download the port program from GitHub

  1. Prepare your own extracted game folder. If you only have your own PKG, extract it first.
  2. Open the maintainer’s program release and choose the Windows ZIP or Linux AppImage below.
  3. On Windows, extract the whole ZIP into a folder you can write to without administrator access. On Linux, make the AppImage executable as shown below.
  4. Open the launcher. Choose Game / Game folder / Browse… and select your game folder.
  5. Return to Home, click Save, then PLAY.

Prepare your own game folder

Select the folder that contains:

eboot.bin
sce_module/
sce_sys/

Check the detected title ID and game version, including the full-update startup warning, with the game-version guide. If your update is in a separate folder, that guide shows which launcher field to use.

Install on Windows

Extract the program before launching it. An example program folder is:

C:\Games\gow3-windows

Open:

God of War III.exe

Follow the folder selection and Save / PLAY steps above. The Home screen should show the cover, title ID and game version after you select the game folder. The program is unsigned; check that your download came from the maintainer before responding to a Windows security prompt.

The launcher includes a complete Spanish interface under Advanced / Launcher / Launcher language. Reopen it after changing the language.

The first start prepares the game image. Shader compilation can also affect later launches. For subsequent starts with saved settings, use:

Play God of War III.exe

Check Windows, CPU, GPU and driver requirements

ComponentRequirement
WindowsWindows 10 (1903 or newer) or Windows 11, 64-bit
CPU64-bit x86 processor with AVX; Intel Sandy Bridge (2011) or newer, AMD FX or newer
GPUGPU with Vulkan 1.3 support and a current driver
RAMNo published minimum
VRAMNo published minimum

On a laptop with both an AMD integrated GPU and an NVIDIA GPU, this release fixes the black screen caused by the AMD switchable graphics Vulkan layer; the launcher disables that layer.

Update your graphics driver before starting. Check your own game folder’s size in your file manager, then leave room for the extracted program, prepared game image, saves and shader cache. The program’s download size covers only its package. The launcher’s 8 GB RAM warning now appears only when you select a resolution patch above 1080p. If it appears, start with native resolution and use the memory-error checks for a launch failure.

Install on Linux

The Linux AppImage is experimental. It needs x86-64 Linux with glibc 2.39 or newer, an AVX-capable CPU and a Vulkan 1.3 driver.

In the folder containing the downloaded AppImage, run:

chmod +x gow3-x86_64.AppImage
./gow3-x86_64.AppImage

Then choose your game folder, save and press PLAY. To update, download the newer AppImage from the same maintainer’s release page. If an older copy fails with this message, replace it with the rebuilt download:

GLIBC_2.44 not found

The recommended AppImage fixes the Steam Deck/RADV block corruption on Kratos, the logo and characters. Its release lists SteamOS, Bazzite/Fedora, Debian 13 and Ubuntu 24.04 or newer as supported environments. The Linux launcher also fixes the disappearing pointer under XWayland and page scrolling with the mouse wheel.

For a Steam library shortcut, close Steam, then use Advanced / Add to Steam. This adds the installed program as a Non-Steam Game.

Linux game data, saves, cache and logs live under:

Launcher preferences are kept separately:

Check first launch and saves

Once you reach a playable screen, check movement, sound and saving. Close normally after saving, reopen the game and check that the save loads.

Before updating the port on Windows, keep the program’s data folder:

FAQ

Which program download should I use?

Choose the maintainer’s Windows ZIP for Windows, or its experimental Linux AppImage for Linux. Both choices are in the download table above; keep each package with its matching checksum file.

Can I point the launcher at a PKG?

Choose an extracted game folder. If your own copy is still a PKG, follow the extraction workflow and check its output before returning here.

Should I choose the base folder or a separate update?

Use Game folder for the base and Update folder for a separately extracted update. Leave Update folder empty when the selected game folder already contains the update. See Game Version.
